FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please read through the following questions and answers before sending an e-mail to find the information you’re looking for.
I’ve seen an animal on the site that I’m interested in adopting. Is he/she still available? How can I get more info on him or her?
There are two ways to get this information:
- By emailing us for an adoption application about the pet you are interested in at: info@spcamonteregie.com.
- By calling 514.386.5960 with a brief message about the pet you are interested in and we will get back to you ASAP.
Please keep in mind that the emails and phone calls are taken care of by caring volunteers who want nothing more than to find great homes for all of our great pets!
When are you open?
We are open to the public on Thursday and Saturday afternoons from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm for adoptions. If there is a particular animal you are interested in meeting, please call or email us for an appointment outside the regular adoption hours.
How do I adopt an animal?
By filling out an adoption application before coming to the shelter, this enables us to know who you are and find the right match for you. However, if you would like to come and visit our dogs and cats without filling out an application form, please feel free to come to the shelter during adoption days: Thursday and Saturday afternoons, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm (directions are on the "Contact us" page). See the animals for yourself and speak with our on-site staff to get the information you need. Our founder Linda Robertson or another staff member will help ensure that you find a perfect match and fill out the paperwork. Depending on the particular animal, you may be able to take it home that day.
From time to time, and especially during the warmer weather, we have offsite adoption days to adopt out dogs (and sometimes cats). Please check on our "Events" page for adoption days and other special events coming up.
The Petcetera store in Greenfield Park (Longueuil) helps us with the adoptions of our cats by having some of our cats for adoption in their adoption room. You can visit our adoptable cats during regular store hours and a trained staff member can help find the right kitty for you.

How much does adoption cost, and what does the price include?
Our prices are $280 for a dog or puppy and $60 - $120 for a cat or kitten – cash, Interac, or credit card (via PayPal) only. The price includes sterilization, de-worming and vaccinations. If the animal is a puppy or kitten, she/he will have had the appropriate boosters, but you are responsible for all subsequent vaccination costs. If the animal has not already been sterilized (i.e., spayed or neutered), the cost also includes sterilization – but only by our vet. We do not cover the cost of sterilization or any other medical procedures performed by your veterinarian.
I have lost or found an animal. How do I get this info on your website?
Send an e-mail with “LOST ANIMAL” or “FOUND ANIMAL” in the subject line. Include clear text in the body of the e-mail with the date and location the animal was lost or found, any distinguishing marks or tags, and your name and contact information – we will post your text as is. Include a photo with your e-mail that does not exceed 640 x 480. If you can, provide the text in both English and French.
Please also contact your local pound as soon as your animal goes missing. The SCDD services most towns on the south shore. Please contact them at 450.656.1007 and visit the pound every 3 days. Don’t forget to visit the montreal shelters as well. The sooner you contact these places, the better your chances of saving your animal should it be there.Placing an ad in your local newspaper and putting up posters will increase your chances of finding your pet. Don’t give up and never loose hope!
